Allergies and Asthma
Food Allergies
Be mindful of food allergens, food allergens can adversely affect our good intentions of eating well and can further stress the immune system. Food allergens can be either an instant or delayed response. The instant one being the walnut which caused your throat to close up, the delayed and more difficult to spot, the pizza you ate Friday night and the sinus congestion you had Saturday morning. Since eating is an immunological event what we eat affects us positively or negatively, that’s it, end of story, positive or negative period. There are many symptoms that can come from food allergens the most common are: ear, nose, throat, and sinus congestion, asthma and wheezing, constipation and gastrointestinal upset, fatigue, heaviness, and skin reactions. If you suspect you have food allergens you should avoid the foods in question and then ask your Naturopathic Doctor to run an IgG food sensitivity test on you. Most conventional MD’s who specialize in Allergy and Immunology do not recognize IgG food allergens as true allergens and as a whole do not test for them. Then a food plan can be individualized for your needs.
Seasonal & Skin Allergies
Allergies cause an inflammation of the mucus membranes. Treatment success is limited if we only treat the area of inflammation. It is most successful to ask the question why is this particular person is having a reaction and treat their underlying imbalance. In the case of seasonal allergies, it is important to control the immune response so that it does not overreact with inflammation and enhance detoxification by the liver to assist in clearing offending substances. Only then can permanent relief be achieved.
Skin reactions can be exceptionally frustrating. Especially frustrating if your only options from the Dermatologist involve corticosteroid creams, and antifungal ointments. In most cases of chronic skin inflammation, the problem comes from the inside. There is some imbalance within your body causing the inflammation to manifest on your skin. Working with a Naturopathic Doctor is the best way to put all of the pieces of your puzzle together so that a specific plan can be developed for you.
Asthma
Asthma falls into the category of reactive airway disease. Something causes the lining of the mucous membranes inside the bronchioles to react and constrict. Many people suffer from varying degrees of asthma. Natural medicine can work together with your asthma medications
