What is Colon Hydrotherapy?

Also referred to as colonics or colonic irrigation, colon hydrotherapy is a safe, effective time-tested method for cleansing the large intestine, or colon, of accumulated waste material by use of repeated gentle infusions of warm filtered water.

Even though our bodies are equipped with magnificent systems to eliminate waste and toxins, modern living often overwhelms these natural systems. The accumulation of these toxins can make one more susceptible to illness, fatigue and mental and emotional instability.

Colon hydrotherapy gently flushes out the accumulated waste in the colon that is not being eliminated naturally. It is medically indicated to alleviate constipation. The goal of colon hydrotherapy is to hydrate and tonify the colon while assisting the body in the elimination harmful toxins.

Why is it important to cleanse the colon?
Disease begins in the colon. In a stagnant colon, fermentation and putrefaction occur. This gives rise to the proliferation of unhealthy bacteria. The colon is the sewage system of the body and must eliminate regularly. Waste that sits in our colon begins to rot and putrefy. This causes a putrid odor. Quite similarly this happens in the body. Furthermore, the walls of the colon are semi-permeable. The toxins present in the accumulated waste can move through the walls of the colon and into the blood, recirculating these toxins back into the body.

Is it embarrassing or painful?
It is not at all embarrassing! Because FDA registered “closed system” equipment is used, there is no smell or mess. Material exits the body through the small disposable speculum and tubing, through the view tube in the unit and out to the sewer. Insertion of the speculum is neither embarrassing nor painful; it is simple and dignified. Clients report that they find the sessions pleasant and relaxing.

How long does a session last?
Allow 55 minutes for your appointment. Your actual time on the table will be 30-45 minutes. Expect your appointments to begin and end as scheduled.

Can the entire colon be cleaned in one session?
People who have never had colon hydrotherapy find that it is most beneficial to begin with a series of four sessions. The first session hydrates the colon as well as any impacted or encrusted material. Therefore, it is not uncommon to leave our office feeling a little heavy and perhaps slightly tired. This is normal.

It is typical during the second session to see much more material released from the sigmoid, or lower section of the colon. As the water is able to flow more deeply into the next sections, the descending and transverse areas of the colon experience hydration.

During the third session, most often there is more material is released from these areas and when this session is concluded there is a sense of lightness, vitality and completion. Clients report a soft hollow feeling in the abdomen, clear-headedness as well a deeper sleep and a balanced energy throughout the day. The forth session is scheduled for the following week.

Will I experience urgency and need to be by the bathroom all day?
In most cases elimination will be complete by the end of the session. Rarely do clients report urgent or emergency situations. Sometimes there is elimination later in the day. This is a good thing!

Will I be able to return to work?
Yes, definitely.

What do I do to prepare?
If you avoid eating a large meal 2-3 hours before your session you will be more comfortable. Other than that, come as you are!
